Robotic Camera Control Automation in Demiroren Media Broadcast Studios

Istanbul / Turkiye

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Demirören Media aimed to manage its in-studio cameras with a centralized, high-precision robotic system to enhance broadcast quality and operational efficiency across studio operations:

  • • Smooth & Repeatable Camera Movements: Eliminate human error in live broadcasts by providing seamless transitions to pre-defined camera angles, shots, and cues.
  • • Centralized Multi-Camera Management: Enable synchronized management of 4 studio cameras alongside connected infrastructure (router, tally, lens control) from a single control point.
  • • Extensibility & Integration: Achieve uninterrupted communication with existing Sony studio cameras (HDC100), Canon lenses, the Evertz EQX16 router, and auxiliary hardware.

WHAT WE DID

IMPLEMENTED SOLUTION & TECHNICAL ARCHITECTURE

In partnership with AVITENG and Shotoku, an end-to-end, high-performance robotic studio solution was deployed:

Hardware & Robotic Heads

  • • 4 x Shotoku TG18-I-001: High-precision robotic pan/tilt heads with a 62 kg payload capacity. Equipped with continuous fluid dampers for manual override whenever manual operation is needed.
  • • Integrated Camera Infrastructure: 'Y' interface cables (CA-265-9030 / CA-361-0001) for full lens and focus control of Sony HDC100 cameras and Canon K17ex7.7B IASE lenses.

Central Control & Software

  • • 1 x Shotoku TRXT-XY-08-300 (TR-XT System): A dual-joystick (PTZ & XYH) control unit featuring a Dell P2424HT touchscreen, supporting up to 8 camera channels. Features live video Drag & Centre, CRuZe mode, and Key-frame sequence tracking.
  • • 1 x Shotoku ECI-PLUS-001 (Automation Interface): External control interface enabling automated scene/shot recall via external studio control systems and gallery automation.

Network & Signal Infrastructureı

  • • Evertz EQX16 Router Integration: Router switching for HD video preview via the Quartz RPC Type-01 protocol.
  • • Tally & KVM Extension: IP/Serial/GPI On-Air Tally support; lossless signal transmission from the control room to the studio floor using ATEN CE820 HDBaseT KVM extenders and a Netgear network switch infrastructure.

KEY SYSTEM COMPONENTS & TECHNOLOGY

  • • Shotoku TG-18i Robotik Heads (4 Units): High 62 kg payload capacity combined with fluid dampers allowing fully automated robotic motion as well as instant manual override.
  • • Shotoku TR-XT Control Platform (1 Units): Centralized management system with a dual-joystick panel and Dell touchscreen interface, providing Drag & Centre and Key-frame sequence tracking for up to 8 cameras.
  • • Automation & System Integration: Shotoku ECI-Plus interface for gallery automation; Evertz EQX16 Router (Quartz RPC) and Tally integration for live preview and switcher synchronization.
  • • Signal & KVM Infrastructure: ATEN HDBaseT KVM extenders and Netgear network solutions for seamless transmission between the control room and studio.

RESULT & KEY BENEFITS

  • • High Broadcast Standards: Visual quality during live broadcasts was elevated using pre-programmed camera positions and smooth motion transitions (CRuZe/Key-frame).
  • • Operational Efficiency: Enabled a single operator to seamlessly control all 4 studio cameras simultaneously via the TR-XT touchscreen panel. /li>
  • • Flexibility & Reliability: The hybrid design grants the studio crew the flexibility to switch instantly from robotic control to full manual operation whenever required.
  • • Comprehensive On-Site Support & Training: On-site operational and technical training conducted by AVITENG and Shotoku engineers minimized the gallery crew's system adaptation period.
